The 2016 autumn/winter collection was inspired by the beautiful photo series taken by the hungarian photographer János Stekovics. The black and white pictures show the Lukács twins, János and István, then 63 years old, going by their daily business on the farm. The photos are simple, natural, and also quite humorous. The ‘double vision’ creates a very special, magical atmosphere – there is two of everything in this world: two men, two bicycles, two rakes.
The choice of topic is not a coincidence, naturally. One of the designers, András Tóth, has a twin brother himself, so he knows this ‘double-world’ quite well. However, it is not just the special mood of the pictures that served as a source of inspiration. The hungarian plains are rich in textures, surfaces and patterns – they too have found their way into this collection.
The colors that are part of the brand dna (black, white, beige, grey and blue) are complemented by a set of trend colors such as fiery tangerine, mustard, moss green, ice blue, rust, blush and mauve. This time however, even the dna colors come in new and exciting shades: there is a whole range of greys from light to graphite grey, while color blue returns as petrol blue this season.
The choice of fabrics is characterized by diversity of character and texture. A dominant part of the collection are the wools that come in various forms, from a virgin wool felted knit to an old-school, grandpa-style grey wool with needle-punch appliqués that resemble the paint stains on the work clothes of the Lukács twins, as well as a loosely woven striped wool blend with a ‘70s feel to it.
The wools are complemented by a series of other exciting fabrics. The pattern of the water-repellent quilted textile resembles a large-scale cable knit, the neoprene comes with a rustic, woven surface, the curly faux fur imitates the surface of the guba, the sleeveless shepherd’s coat typical for the region. The collection includes delicate goat suede with a particularly soft touch, the washed jeans give it a cool, contemporary edge, while the chunky hand-knitted pieces show the brand’s dedication to craftsmanship.
A real technical novelty is the so-called intarsia-knit: several pieces are knitted with the photo-realistic pattern of the ramshackle wall that can be seen behind the twins on stekovics’s photographs. Finally, another interesting textile is the reversible sequin – glamourous gold on the one side and grunge checked on the other, resembling the typical pattern of the twins’ flannel shirts.
The silhouettes of the collection evoke the ‘70s: long coats, maxi dresses, wide-legged palazzo pants, shirt- and wrap dresses as well as turtlenecks dominate the collection. The exaggerated, long sleeves bring in some of the careless coolness of the ‘90s. The collection includes playful contrasts of masculine and feminine elements.
The collection is complemented by three beautiful leather bags. 'nimrod' is based on a truly iconic piece: the saddle bag that every fashionable girl wore in budapest in the ‘70s. This vintage saddle bag was one of the most characteristic pieces of the era, to be bought at one shop only: the hunters’ store at Vörösmarty square in budapest called Nimród – hence the name of the bag. 'Luca' is a smaller version of this saddle bag, while 'Norma', the third bag in the mix is a larger leather handbag. All three bags are hand-crafted in very high quality with lots of love to detail.
