China already had a considerable influence on the fashion of the west centuries ago. Different and original, the symbolic costumes, paintings, porcelains and other works of art reveal magical notions which are related to a distinctively Chinese fantasy world. The western world came to be captivated by the mysterious oriental objects and images, which provided inspiration for designers like Yves Saint Laurent, Paul Poiret and Balenciaga.
Chinese women maintain a highly diverse wardrobe, which includes almost everything from the latest collections of the largest fashion houses, through the elaborate, handmade pieces of local brands, to the typical dresses of this or that subculture. The programme of this fashion day, held as part of the Festival, keeps in view this diversity, and offers an insight into Chinese fashion from reimagined traditional wears to contemporary apparel. Also featured are those pieces by Hungarian designer
Katti Zoób, which were inspired by China.
