Tom Ford says that dressing well is a form of manners. "When you're standing in a room, your effect is the same as a chair's effect, or a sculpture's. You're part of someone's view, you're part of that world, and so you should dress well. I find it's a show of respect to try to put on your best face and look as good as you can."
The same is true for the streetscape. Even the dullest February cityscape can be transformed into a street scene of varied style and colourful shapes by the way we dress. We not only affect ourselves, but also the world with our appearance.
My personal experience has been that I not only lift my own spirits with my diverse outfits, but also make people smile when I pass them on the street.
A smile makes any outfit more stylish, and a stylish outfit makes others smile too.
This time, I've chosen from
Joon Filmlab's Milan photos where the smile - whether it's full-throatedly cheerful or decently affectionate - outshines the outfit.
Joon's documentary-style photos show not only the fashion week's followers, but also the ordinary people on the street.
We love them all!
